Luxembourg's Ministry of Sport has confirmed that the ENEPS national school for physical activity and sports is now a national institute.

With the entry into force of the relevant law on 1 October 2023, the École Nationale de l'Éducation Physique et des Sports (ENEPS) has become the Institut National de l'Activité Physique et des Sports (INAPS)

The missions of INAPS have been modernised and expanded compared to those of ENEPS in order to give the newly created institute the means to take into account the growing needs of society in terms of physical activity and sports, noted the ministry.

The vision of INAPS is to ensure the role of a centre of competence and resources, which is committed to contributing to the continued development of the quality of sport and physical activity in Luxembourg, at all levels.

This contribution to qualitative development will be achieved through the training of sports executives, teachers and educators, but also through the support and advice of actors and institutions having a direct and consequent impact on the experience of sport and physical activity in Luxembourg, such as government ministries, state and municipal administrations as well as sports federations.

Whilst training remains important at INAPS, its ambitions and missions are evolving. Luxembourg's Minister of Sport, Georges Engel, elaborated: "Sport and physical activity have a very important role in our society at various levels, such as health, well-being, integration or learning of values. This deserves that we use the necessary means. The development of INAPS is a decisive step in the right direction. It is a centre of competence and resources, whose mission is to continually develop the quality of sport and physical activity in Luxembourg at all levels and throughout society. I am convinced of the enormous potential of this new dynamic, which will bring a lot to sport in Luxembourg."

INAPS Director Charles Stelmes specified: "The transition from ENEPS to INAPS is an important signal, but the development of the institute's activities and missions is a process which has already begun at ENEPS and which has been taking shape for several years. Our missions can be summed up by these four words: train, advise, develop and support! The objective of INAPS is to contribute to the development of the quality of sport and physical activity in Luxembourg, by gathering knowledge and then transmitting it on the ground, whether through training, advice or support from those in the sports sector."

The location of INAPS remains unchanged (66 Rue de Trèves, L-2630 Luxembourg).
