As part of LUX Film Days, the Bureau of the European Parliament and the Representation of the European Commission in Luxembourg are organising a screening of the Luxembourg-Romanian co-production "Collective" at Kinepolis Kirchberg on Thursday 22 April 2021 at 19:00.
Following the screening, Luxembourg director and producer Yann Tonnar will host a debate with Luxembourg MEP Isabel Wiseler-Lima (CSV / PPE), the documentary's director Alexander Nanau and producer Bernard Michaux (SAMSA). The latter two will join the debate virtually from Los Angeles ahead of the 93rd Academy Awards (Oscars).
LUX Public Prize 2021
In addition to its double Oscar nomination, “Collective” has been nominated for the first edition of the LUX Audience Award, alongside “Another Round” by Danish director Thomas Vinterberg and “Corpus Christi ”by Polish director Jan Komasa.
The LUX Audience Award is presented by the European Parliament and the European Film Academy (EFA), in partnership with the European Commission and Europa Cinemas. This new prize was born from the combination of the LUX Prize, the film prize awarded by the European Parliament and created in 2007 to symbolise the Parliament's commitment to culture, and the EFA's People's Choice Award. Like the LUX Prize, it aims to build new bridges across Europe by putting the spotlight on films that are directly linked to European public debate.
The prize also aims to strengthen the links between politics and citizens: to do this, European viewers are invited to participate actively by voting for their favorite films before 23 May 2021 at www.luxaward.eu. Some participants, selected at random, will receive a reward: the chance to attend the LUX Public Prize award ceremony, which will be held on 9 June 2021 at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, or the next European Film Awards ceremony in December 2021.

"Collective" Synopsis
In 2015, a fire at the Colectiv nightclub in Bucharest left 27 dead and 180 injured. Additional burn victims died shortly after in hospitals from injuries that should not have been life threatening. A doctor's testimony alerts a team of investigative journalists. From one revelation to another, the journalists begin to uncover massive corruption in the public health system. A new Minister of Health is appointed, who will attempt to reform the system, but despite his best efforts he will face insurmountable obstacles. Collective follows the stories of journalists, whistleblowers, victims and politicians to offer an uncompromising look at the positive influence that the best of investigative journalism can bring.
