On Wednesday 5 October 2016, Camera Obskura presented its new feature-length film Kropemann which is due to be released in cinemas on Wednesday 19 October in Utopolis cinemas.
Kropemann is the second feature-length film of the non-profit organization Camera Obskura, following the amateur production Zombie Film (2005). This newest film narrates the story of a series of student murders in Luxembourg. Whilst the murderer seems to leave no trace behind, neither the students nor the police are prepared to face the terrifying truth behind the incidents which begin to reveal that the murderer is strangely similar to the mythical figure Kropemann.
Screenwriter and director Patrick Ernzer describes his film as being a mixture of suspense, a slasher movie and a black comedy. He also highlights the fact that most Luxembourgers can relate to the figure of Kropemann who makes up part of their collective imagination from childhood. The film’s creators also describe it as an independent underground production which has been entirely financed by Camera Obskura’s personal funds. All of the film’s actors were chosen as part of an open casting call and none of them had any professional experience on the big screen before filming Kropemann.
The 93-minute long film, which was produced over a period of more than eight years with a budget of around €25,000, will be released in cinemas across the country on 19 October.
