The Confucius Institute at the University of Luxembourg has announced it will organise a forum in close collaboration with the Department of Life Sciences and Medicine at the University of Luxembourg and the School of Basic Medical Sciences at Fudan University.
The forum is entitled "Cancer Research: One goal, multiple approaches" and will present six short presentations on Monday 4 December 2023 from 18:00 to 21:00 at the Luxembourg Learning Centre (Ellipse room) in Esch-Belval.
Professors from the University of Luxembourg and Fudan University will explain the results of their respective scientific research on the malignant transformation of normal cells into cancer cells, the resulting activation of our body's defence cells as well as the identification of possible molecular targets and strategies to fight cancer.
The examination will delve into the intricacies of molecular mechanisms facilitating cell-to-cell communication, exemplified by the coordination of the human body's defence cells in responding to cancerous cells. Cancer cells, in turn, evolve "communication tools" to resist immune defences, allowing them to persistently proliferate. Unravelling these fundamental mechanisms through cutting-edge biological and bioinformatics technologies is poised to unveil new drug targets, thereby aiding the advancement of future cancer therapies.
