On Saturday 5 October 2019, Archbishop Jean-Claude Hollerich was ordained as Luxembourg's first cardinal.
The ordination followed Pope Francis's announcement last month that he would be appointing thirteen new cardinals, including Jean-Claude Hollerich.
On Saturday afternoon, the Archbishop of Luxembourg was ordained as a cardinal, along with twelve other archbishops, during the Ordinary Public Consistory ceremony held at Saint Peter's Basilica.
