On Monday 19 January 2026, Luxembourg’s national railway company, the CFL, announced that the first six-unit configuration of its 2450 series Coradia Stream High Capacity train had entered service between Luxembourg and Athus, Belgium.

The train, comprising of a pair of three-car units, offers nearly 700 seats and its first journey on Monday morning marked a new milestone in the CFL’s rollout programme, which will see 34 new generation trains from rail manufacturer Alstom increase seating capacity on the rail network by 46%.

“After completing tests in France, Belgium and Luxembourg as part of the approval process for the 2450 series, we are proud to be able to offer this new rolling stock with unparalleled comfort to our customers travelling between Luxembourg and Athus,” said Sophie Lacour, Director of Passenger Activities at CFL.

CFL noted that the commissioning of the new multiple units forms an integral part of its strategy not only to offer a very high-quality service but also to respond to customer needs, particularly in terms of seating capacity. The multiple-unit configuration will mainly operate on the network’s busy routes.

CFL has ordered twelve Coradia trains in the six-car 2450 series. Each unit offers 692 seats in a single trainset, including 88 first-class seats and 80 seats for passengers with reduced mobility. The trains also provide two compartments for two wheelchairs and space for up to 24 bicycles, as well as onboard WiFi and 230V power sockets and USB-C charging ports for passengers. CFL can also couple a 2450 series unit with a three-car unit from the 2400 series to create a nine-car unit train offering 1,000 seats.
