On Wednesday 15 October 2025, Luxembourg’s national railway company, the CFL, launched its first Coradia train operating in multiple-unit configuration (two connected trains operated as one).
The train, comprising a pair of three-car units, offers a total of 668 seats across its 164-metre length. It is now running between Luxembourg and Diekirch on the Luxembourg–Ettelbruck–Troisvierges–Gouvy line.
Fourteen Coradia Stream High Capacity trains, manufactured by Alstom near Barcelona, are already in service in Luxembourg in single-unit configuration with three carriages and 334 seats (series 2400). The introduction of this new configuration marks the next step in the gradual deployment of the 34-train fleet.
The CFL teamed up with the manufacturer Alstom to prepare and implement the new configuration. The two partners are continuing the phased commissioning of the remaining Coradia Stream High Capacity trains, with full deployment expected by the end of 2026.
The next milestone, planned by the end of 2025, will be the commissioning of the first Coradia trains of series 2450 in a six-car configuration (692 seats per train).
