Luxembourg's railway company, the CFL, has presented details of the second phase of major engineering works being carried out on the country's rail network this year; this phase will run from 3 April until 16 July 2021.

Following an adapted schedule in 2021, the CFL is continuing work on the extension, modernisation and maintenance of the national rail network in four phases.

Recent infrastructure projects such as the construction of the second Pulvermuehle viaduct or the Howald multimodal interchange hub and the Pfaffenthal-Kirchberg stop with its funicular are an integral part of the continuous extension and modernisation of infrastructure. Other projects include, in particular, the extension of Luxembourg Railway Station (Gare), the creation of the new Bettembourg - Luxembourg line and the creation of exchange hubs near passengers' places of work and residence.

The following rail sections will be closed off during this second phase:

- Line 10 (Luxembourg – Troisvierges – Gouvy): 3-5 April, between Mersch and Gouvy, between Ettelbruck and Diekirch and between Kautenbach and Wiltz; 6-18 April, between Ettelbruck and Gouvy, between Ettelbruck and Diekirch and between Kautenbach and Wiltz; 22-30 May, between Luxembourg, Ettelbruck and Diekirch

- Line 30 (Luxembourg – Wasserbillig – Trier): 22-28 May, between Luxembourg and Sandweiler-Contern

- Line 70 (Luxembourg – Pétange – Rodange – Athus – Longwy): 27 February to 25 April, between Rodange and Athus

- Lines 60 (Luxembourg – Esch-sur-Alzette ‒ Pétange) & 90 (Luxembourg – Bettembourg – Thionville): 3-18 April, between Luxembourg and Bettembourg

Works during the weekend or at night will take place locally on sections of all lines.

Substitution buses will be set up during these periods.
