On Monday, Luxembourg's Minister for Sustainable Development and Infrastructure, François Bausch, initiated discussions with Rhineland-Palatinate, the Luxembourg railways (CFL), the German railways (Deutsche Bahn AG) and the organising authority in Rhineland-Palatinate, the SPNV-Nord, with a view to the introduction of a daily direct rail connection between Luxembourg and Düsseldorf, without the need to change, via Trier, Koblenz and Cologne.
The new relationship which, according to the current state of affairs, could lead to being operational from December 2017, when the 6-monthly timetable change is implemented, would be done using Stadler "KISS" type CFL trains already in service between Luxembourg and Koblenz. The CFL's highly comfortable railcars, which were commissioned in 2014 and can run at 160 km/h, have 284 seats, 29 of them in first class, with "ICE" seats.
The few open technical points should be clarified shortly with Deutsche Bahn.
