One year after the laying of the first stone, François Bausch, Luxembourg's Minister of Sustainable Development and Infrastructure, Sam Tanson, first deputy mayor of the City of Luxembourg, and Raymond Weydert, mayor of the Municipality of Niederanven, together with officials of Luxtram SA, today visited the site of the new Storage and Maintenance Centre, the Neien Tramsschapp.
The guests were given a guided tour of the three buildings that make up the "neien Tramsschapp": The storage will host the 32 trains necessary for the operation of the line between Cloche d'Or and Findel, workshops for maintenance of the trains, and the third building that houses the offices and the command centre (CPC) of the tram network and the headquarters of Luxtram SA.
Beginning in 2015, Luxtram started preparation work. Earthworks and network deviation began in the spring followed by structural work. On 18 September 2015 the first stone was laid and now the structural work is completed. Currently more than 40 companies and nearly 150 people work daily on the CRM project.
Currently the first three trains are being manufactured in the CAF factory in Zaragoza, Spain. The first train will be finished in November and delivered to Luxembourg early 2017. The first tests and trials will begin in Luxembourg as early as May 2017.
