Luxembourg's national railway operator, the CFL, has communicated that there are to provide a real-time traffic information project for CFL trains; the project is expected to be voted on soon at Luxembourg's parliament.
The automated passenger information system will be both acoustic and visual in nature at stations throughout the Luxembourg railway network. It will offer travelers comprehensive and targeted information on the movement of trains in both normal circumstances and during disturbances, in real-time.
The automated system will be connected to the existing system of real-time management of rail traffic. A pilot application is to be tested in a train station before general deployment on the entire network.
The project budget will depend on the results of the pilot project and is therefore estimated at present to be circa €30 million; the completion schedule aims for implementation from 2017-2019.
