On Wednesday 12 February 2025, Luxembourg’s Ministry of Education, Children and Youth, together with the Ministry of Mobility and Public Works, announced that as a result of renovation work at Lycée Robert Schuman Luxembourg, some classes will be transferred to the nearby National Institute of Languages (INLL) in Luxembourg-Limpertsberg.

In a statement, the ministries confirmed that during renovation work on the sanitary facilities and classrooms of the former Lycée Robert Schuman Luxembourg building, dating from 1926, the need for more extensive work was noted. Such work would not allow classes to continue on the upper floors. It was therefore decided to limit the use of the building to the ground floor and to transfer classes from the other floors to the INLL in order to accommodate students for the duration of the work, while ensuring the continuity of teaching in the best possible conditions.

The ministries added that once classes resume after the Carnival holidays, some of the upper classes (fourth, third, second and first) as well as a class for young adults and two reception classes from the Lycée Robert Schuman, i.e. some 251 students, will be temporarily accommodated in the premises of the INLL in Luxembourg-Limpertsberg, until the end of the 2024/2025 school year. A total of thirteen classrooms will be made available to the secondary school.

As Lycée Robert Schuman is accessible from the INLL in a few minutes on foot or via a tram station, students from the classes transferred to the INLL will be able to continue to use the usual means of transport for their school journeys. They will also be able to access Lycée Robert Schuman to use the sports facilities and attend optional classes, for which rooms will be set up on the ground floor of the main building of the school.

The ministries clarified that at the INLL, students will benefit from the Restopolis catering and cafeteria services, during short breaks and the lunch break.

From the start of the 2025/2026 school year and until the end of the work, temporary structures will be set up to accommodate classes that cannot be held in the main building. The capacity of the Lycée Robert Schuman will not be impacted by these developments. New registrations for the 2025/2026 school year will therefore take place normally, without any changes.

The statement added that 50 language courses for adults at the INLL will be temporarily transferred to the new building of the National School of Health (formerly the Technical High School for Health Professions) in Strassen. The school community of the Lycée Robert Schuman as well as the INLL students concerned have been informed of these rearrangements by the respective management.
