The summer break is the time during which schools can focus on improvements and renovations, before the new school year begins, to avoid any disruptions to students’ learning during class periods.
Improvement works were thus carried out at St George’s School during the summer break, notably the repainting of classrooms and common areas. Several classrooms were reallocated to accommodate the year groups and departments’ changing needs. The school's new gymnasium, Elsy Jacobs, is underway and is on track to be completed in December 2024.
The International School of Luxembourg (ISL), for its part, celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, saw big changes and improvements done to its libraries, which underwent a complete renovation. Lower School students were welcomed by the freshly transformed library, providing an inviting space for study and exploration. Significant updates comprise new flooring and light fixtures, a fresh coat of paint, newly installed bookshelves and modern furnishings. This follows the completion of the Upper School library a few months prior to the end of the last school year, which ISL confirmed now provides advanced resources for research. The Lower School libraries now counts approximately 30.000 books while the Upper School library houses approximately 15.500 books.
Helen Hagemann, the Lower School Librarian, said: “We are very excited about our new libraries at ISL! Our goal with the renovations was to continue championing the joys of reading and providing support for the curriculum in a welcoming and flexible space. As one of our new students said, ‘This library has so many books to choose from.’”
