On Tuesday 14 January 2025, the Luxembourg Council of State gave its New Year address at the Hôtel du Conseil d’État in Luxembourg-Ville.
In a formal yet relaxed atmosphere, the keynote speech, delivered in Luxembourgish by Council of State President, Marc Thewes, touched on existing perceptions of how the Council functions, the differences in how the Council operates in comparison to the Chamber of Deputies (parliament), and the challenges in dealing with the numerous draft laws currently being evaluated.
Upon conclusion of the speech, those in attendance were cordially invited to enjoy drinks and finger food in the relaxed and convivial atmosphere.
Approximately 60 guests attended the event, including Luxembourg's Prime Minister, Luc Frieden; Ambassador to Luxembourg for Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Fleur Thomas; and Ambassador of Ireland, Jean McDonald.
