Luxembourg’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for the Economy, Étienne Schneider has been on an economic mission to Iran,where her attended a seminar entitled “Iran-Luxembourg: Partners in a changing world” on 18 October 2016 in Tehran.
The economic delegation, made up of representatives from around 40 Luxembourg businesses had the chance to network with over 120 Iranian businessmen and women at the seminar, which was organised by the Luxembourgish Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with local partners.
There were several speeches at the event, followed by a Q&A session, which gave participants the chance to learn about the opportunities on offer in the Grand Duchy, for instance as a point of entry to the European Single Market.
In the afternoon, Étienne Schneider met with Mahmoud Vaezi, the Iranian Minister of Information Technology and Communication, to discuss a future collaboration in the ICT sector, and more specifically in the domain of cybersecurity. During this meeting, the two ministers agreed to stay in contact in order to exchange knowledge and skills regarding IT security. Their aim is to prepare Iranian businesses to meet European regulations in this sector.
Schneider’s economic mission in Iran ended with a meeting with the Iranian Deputy Minister for Industry, Mining and Business, Mujtaba Khosrowtaj.
The participation of over 40 businesses in this economic mission shows that the Iranian market has an economic interest in Luxembourg.
