Luxembourg Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Jean Asselborn, today spoke at the 51st meeting of the Board of Governors of the Anna Lindh Foundation for Dialogue Between Cultures.
The Anna Lindh Foundation was created in 2005 by government parties of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership (Euromed). Co-financed by the European Commission, the Member States of the European Union and the Union for Mediterranean Partners, the Anna Lindh Foundation works in cooperation with a regional network of over 4,000 civil society organisations in the context of Euromed.
The Anna Lindh Foundation has as its purpose bringing together of people across the Mediterranean to improve mutual respect between cultures and to support civil society. The Foundation aims to restor confidence in dialogue and promote diversity and coexistence in order to fill gaps in mutual perceptions.
In his opening speech, Minister Asselborn outlined the important of intercultural dialogue in building an area of peace and shared prosperity between Europe and the countries of the southern shore, based on complementarities and interdependencies which are considered valuable assets in building a Euro-Mediterranean human solidarity.
The Minister also took stock of the situation on both sides of the Mediterranean, addressing the capacity of the EU and its partners to meet the challenges now present in the region.
