Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Jean Asselborn, will today chair the ministerial policy meeting between the European Union and the Southern African Development Community.
Minister Asselborn will conduct the meeting on behalf of High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice President of the European Commission, Federica Mogherini, with the political dialogue aimed at deepening cooperation between the EU and the Southern African region in various issues of common interest. Factors will include job creation and investment, peace and security, migration and the climate change fight.
The Southern African Development Community (SADC) was established in 1992 and is comprised of the 15 states of Southern Africa: South Africa, Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Seychelles, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
The SADC intends to promote development, economic growth, and peace and security in the region, by supporting regional integration as well as democratic principles and sustainable development.
