This Sunday 25 October 2015, an extraordinary meeting will take place in Brussels, focusing on the migration crisis along the Balkans route in Eastern Europe.
The extraordinary meeting has been convened by President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, and will bring together the Heads of State or Government of Germany, Macedonia, Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Hungary, Romania, Serbia and Slovenia, as well as President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, and representatives of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the European Asylum Support Office (AAIB/EASO) and Frontex.
The Luxembourg Presidency of the Council of the European Union will be represented at the meeting by Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Minister of Immigration and Asylum, Jean Asselborn, who will provide an overview of the work performed by the 'Justice and Home Affairs' Council which he currently chairs.
In this regard, he will outline the situation on the ground following his recent visits to Italy and Greece, where he was joined by European Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration, Dimitris Avramopoulos. The meeting will look into managing the migration crisis with a view to identifying operational conclusions which could be immediately implemented.
