Roundnet Luxembourg has reported that it recently participated in the Roundnet World Championship.

The Luxembourg club described "roundnet", also known as "Spikeball", as an "exciting" 360° version of volleyball, played with a small circular net on the ground. This fast-paced sport is played 2 versus 2.

Originally born in the United States, roundnet has quickly gained popularity across Europe, where teams are becoming increasingly competitive. Luxembourg's only roundnet club to date, Roundnet Luxembourg ASBL, saw its team qualify to participate in this year's World Championship. Eleven athletes travelled to London (UK) to represent the Grand Duchy.

Their journey began with some tough and close losses, but they persevered and qualified for the bronze groups. "This is where history was made," noted the club. In a 21-4 victory over Indonesia, the Luxembourg team celebrated its first World Championship win. More victories followed, with the red lions beating teams from Ireland, Egypt, Poland, Hong Kong, Mexico and Lithuania.

Roundnet Luxembourg said it was "extremely proud" of the performances of its athletes, who, "with this momentum [...] look forward to continuing to develop the sport in their country and returning to the international stage stronger and more experienced than ever".
