On Thursday 31 July 2025, the Luxembourg Olympic and Sports Committee (COSL) announced the composition of Team Lëtzebuerg for The World Games, set to take place from Friday 7 to Sunday 17 August 2025 in Chengdu, China.
The Grand Ducal delegation will comprise six members, including two athletes. Representing Luxembourg in powerlifting is Ankie Timmers, who will compete in the Women’s Super Heavyweight category. The 38-year-old athlete finished fourth at the previous edition of The World Games in 2022. She will be accompanied by her coach, Alain Hammang, and Philippe Parage, President of the Powerlifting & Weightlifting Federation Luxembourg (PWF).
The second athlete representing Luxembourg will be Mariya Klein-Shkolna, competing in archery in the Women’s Compound discipline. The 27-year-old previously claimed gold at the 2015 World Archery Championships in the Women’s Team Compound event. She will travel to Chengdu with coach, Filippo Clini.
The Team Lëtzebuerg delegation to the 2025 World Games will be led by Raymond Conzemius, Director of Sport at COSL.
Mariya Klein-Shkolna is scheduled to compete in the Women’s Compound archery event from Friday 7 to Saturday 9 August 2025 at Qinglong Lake Park, while Ankie Timmers will be in action on the final day of the competition - Sunday 17 August 2025 - at the Hi-Tech Zone Sports Center Gymnasium.
The World Games are an international multi-sport event held every four years under the auspices of the International World Games Association (IWGA), with the support of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Unlike the Olympic Games, they feature disciplines that are not (yet) part of the Olympic programme but are internationally recognised.
According to the organisers, the event is expected to bring together around 5,000 athletes from over 100 countries, competing across nearly 35 sports disciplines.
