On Friday 27 February 2026, Luxembourg's Ministry of State and the Ministry of Culture announced a call for submissions for the creation of a musical composition for the 2026 National Day celebrations.

To celebrate the official birthday of the Grand Duke of Luxembourg, the two ministries have launched a call for submissions for the creation of a musical composition to be premiered and performed during the official ceremony taking place at the Philharmonie Luxembourg on Tuesday 23 June 2026.

The call is open to all Luxembourgish composers or residents who are members of a collective management society.

The festive piece must be created for symphony orchestra (maximum ensemble: strings 14/12/10/8/6; three oboes; three flutes; three clarinets; three basses; four horns; three trumpets; three trombones; one tuba; one harp; kettledrums; two percussions) and will be performed by the Luxembourg Philharmonic orchestra at the opening of the National Day official ceremony. An optional mixed choir (SATB) is possible.

The deadline to apply - via email to appels@mc.etat.lu - is Sunday 15 March 2026 at midnight.

A jury will review and select submissions, before choosing the winner.
