Luxembourg's Elvis impersonator, Steven Pitman, has announced that after 25 years of performing, he will be performing at a Farewell Concert entitled "Elvis: Steven Pitman & Band" on Sunday 2 March 2025 at the Philharmonie in Luxembourg-Kirchberg.
Chronicle.lu caught up with Steven Pitman and asked him about his career and his decision to stop performing.
Chronicle.lu: You have announced your Farewell Concert for 3 March next year, after 25 years on stage (1999 - 2024); what prompted you to call it a day?
Steven Pitman: My wife, Marta, and I have been planning this for about two years. She's supported me throughout our fifteen years together, and now it's time for me to focus on supporting her. In 2021, we opened our restaurant, "Sauerpark Beach", in Rosport during the pandemic. It's a place close to our hearts, so starting next year and especially during the summer months, I'll be dedicating more time to help her with it.
Chronicle.lu: You will certainly be going out with a bang at the magnificent Philharmonie and with a great set of musicians! How did you approach the organisation of this momentous occasion?
Steven Pitman: When I decided to make my "exit from the big stage", I wanted it to happen on the most prestigious stage possible. I started my career here in Luxembourg in 1999, and it feels right to end it here, where I can thank everyone who’s supported me over the past 25 years. It's truly a dream come true for the second time since I first performed at the Philharmonie to celebrate "20 years on stage" in February 2020 - just a week before the COVID lockdown.
Chronicle.lu: What are the highlights of your professional singing career, both domestically in Luxembourg and internationally?
Steven Pitman: The biggest highlights have been travelling throughout Europe and meeting so many people who share my passion for Elvis Presley's music. I've also had the honour of meeting people who were close to Elvis himself, like Joe Esposito, his close friend and tour manager, and Mindi Miller, his girlfriend in 1975 and 1976. Those experiences have been truly special.
Chronicle.lu: You have performed indoors and outdoors, to audiences both seated and standing, some over dinner and some at festivals and other at formal concerts: what have been your favourite concerts?
Steven Pitman: While it’s incredible to perform on big stages with a full band in front of large audiences, I've also always really enjoyed the intimacy of solo dinner shows. These settings allow for a more personal connection, both for me as a performer and for the guests, creating a unique experience.
Chronicle.lu: What brought you to start a professional singing career 25 years ago? Did you sing in school or a children's choir? Did you formally train as a singer?
Steven Pitman: I actually had no background in singing or formal training. It all started at a Christmas party where I was asked to sing a few Elvis songs. That experience quickly turned into a hobby and, after four or five years, became my profession. I guess you could say I "stumbled" into this career, but I’ve never looked back.
Chronicle.lu: What have been your largest musical influences, apart from Elvis Presley, of course?
Steven Pitman: I really enjoy the classic blues, rock 'n' roll, and soul artists from the 50s and 60s. A more recent influence has been Michael Bublé. I admire how he's brought the old Frank Sinatra and Rat Pack style into today's music scene. His stage presence, charisma, humour and audience interaction are all things I appreciate a lot - and he’s a big Elvis fan too!
Chronicle.lu: After this Farewell Concert, will you stop singing altogether, or will you continue in some format? What are your plans for the future? To stay in the entertainment business or to do something completely different?
Steven Pitman: That's a question I get asked a lot these days! I have a few smaller events scheduled for 2025, but I'll be significantly reducing the number of personal performances. I've had the pleasure of meeting some of the world's best tribute artists, and my goal is to focus more on the "tribute business" and my artist booking agency, Designing Entertainment. Of course, I'll continue creating events and experiences around Elvis Presley's music as well.
