Luxembourg Museum Days will take place on Saturday 20 May and Sunday 21 May 2023.

This will be a free-of-charge opportunity to discover permanent and temporary exhibitions, workshops, activities and guided tours in 37 national museums.

The event has existed for 26 years, with 2,500 visitors in 1998 and a global number of 15,265 visitors (all museums combined) last year.

Organised by the Luxembourg National Committee of the International Council of Museums (ICOM), Luxembourg Museum Days will be celebrated as part of the 46th International Museum Day, a day observed by the international museum community organised every year since 1977 by ICOM.

International Museum Day unites more and more museums around the world. In Luxembourg, it is coordinated by ICOM Luxembourg and implemented in close cooperation with the "state museums" as well as with local museums, members of ICOM.

International Museum Day 2023 will focus on sustainability and well-being in museums. According to ICOM Luxembourg, museums make an essential contribution to the well-being and sustainable development of local communities. As established institutions and central parts of the social fabric, they are distinctively positioned to inspire change, whether by supporting climate action, fostering inclusion tackling social isolation or improving mental health, noted ICOM.

As part of the Luxembourg Museum Days, ICOM Luxembourg will present a selection of five member museums from different parts of the country: the Mudam Luxembourg in Luxembourg-Kirchberg, the Literary Museum Victor Hugo in Vianden, the National Museum of Brewing Art in Wiltz, the Kulturhuef Museum in Grevenmacher and the Grand-Ducal Police Museum in Capellen.

The full weekend programme and more information are available on the website dedicated to the event: www.luxembourgmuseumdays.lu.

Note that some activities will require prior reservation with the participating museums.

The Luxembourg Museum Days will take place on 20 and 21 May from 10:00 to 18:00. Admission is free for all.
