The National Museum of History and Art (MNHA) and the Lëtzebuerg City Museum (LCM) have joined forces in a call for object contributions related to the coronavirus pandemic.

The spread of COVID-19 has changed life for many worldwide and Luxembourg is no exception. Since 16 March 2020, nothing has been the same: teleworking has become widespread, schools and creches closed temporarily, travel was limited and the economy slowed down. In order to memorialise this period, material contributions are considered precious. The museums clarified that they were interested in receiving any object that could serve as an artifact of this new way of life.

This collection, being carried out in collaboration with several cultural institutes in the country, is subdivided as follows: material collection by the LCM and the MNHA; intangible collection (webarchive) by the National Library (BNL); photographic documentation by the Centre National de l'Audiovisuel (CNA) and the Photothèque de la Ville de Luxembourg. Objects collected by cultural institutes can also be integrated into the digital www.covidmemory.lu launched by the Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C2DH) of the University of Luxembourg.

As part of this large-scale joint collection operation, residents of Luxembourg City are invited to apply primarily to the Lëtzebuerg City Museum via the portal www.citymuseum.lu/collection, while residents of other municipalities are asked to contact the MNHA via email: histoire@mnha.etat.lu.
