Luxembourg's National Roads Administration has announced temporary traffic restrictions in the area of the Moselle Bridge near Schengen.
At the end of July 2025, the West Branch of Autobahn GmbH implemented what authorities described as necessary traffic control measures in both directions on the Perl / Schengen Moselle Bridge on the A8 / A13 (Luxembourg) motorways to relieve congestion. Since 28 July 2025, traffic in both directions (Germany/Luxembourg) has been reduced to one lane and diverted over the bridge. Damage analysis investigations are currently underway to plan and implement sustainable repair measures.
As part of these investigations, the bridge will be temporarily closed in the direction of Luxembourg. Work will take place during off-peak hours from 22:00 on Thursday 11 September until approximately 02:00 on Friday 12 September 2025.
Traffic heading towards Luxembourg will be diverted on the German side at the A8 Perl junction. The diversion route will take motorists via the B419, the B406, the Remich border bridge and the E29 towards Luxembourg.
An alternative route will take motorists via the B419, the B406, the Remich border bridge, the N2, the N13, the N16 and from the Altwies junction (11) via the A13 / E29 towards Luxembourg.
The Perl-Besch rest area heading towards Luxembourg will be closed from 15:00 on Wednesday 10 September until 02:00 on Friday 12 September 2025.
Traffic on the A8 (Germany) and A13 (Luxembourg) heading towards Germany will not be affected by these temporary traffic restrictions.
The authorities reported that traffic disruptions are not expected but recommended motorists pay attention to radio announcements, account for potential disruptions when planning their routes and allow extra travel time if necessary.
For context, the Autobahn GmbH conducted a comprehensive main inspection of the Perl / Schengen Moselle Bridge in June 2025. Initial results from this regular structural inspection indicated the need for immediate traffic compensation measures to relieve the bridge, which the Autobahn GmbH des Bundes is now implementing.
