The Grand Ducal Police and the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps have reported that a head-on collison involving two cars occurred on Rue de Kehlen in Mamer on Friday afternoon.

Around 16:30 on Friday 13 May 2022, a driver from Kehlen in the direction of Mamer on CR102 motorway steered into the oncoming lane for reasons that remain unclear. The driver tried to countersteer and manoeuvred the car into the ditch, but lost control and veered back into oncoming traffic due to the impact.

An oncoming driver was unable to avoid the frontal collision. His car was thrown a few metres into an adjacent field and the engine block came loose.

Both the drivers had to be rescued from the wreckage with the help of passers-by, the police and the rescue service. The person who caused the accident suffered serious injuries while the oncoming driver is critically injured and currently remains in mortal danger.

The public prosecutor's office was informed and ordered the officers of the criminal police to collect evidence and confiscate the vehicles.

The road was closed to traffic until 20:30 for rescue work and evidence collection to clarify the exact circumstances surrounding the accident.
