The Grand Ducal Police have reported that a fatal road accident occurred between Urspelt and Reuler in northern Luxembourg on Wednesday evening.

At around 21:20 on Wednesday, a motorist lost control of his car (for unknown reasons) while driving along the CR339 between Urspelt and Reuler and collided with a tree. The 18-year-old man from Troisvierges died at the scene of the accident.

The prosecution has ordered an autopsy.

The Grand Ducal Police also confirmed that another serious road accident took place on the N2 in south-eastern Luxembourg later that evening. Shortly after 22:00, there was a collision between two cars on the N2 between Trintange and Roedt. One person was trapped in their car.

According to initial investigations, a turning manoeuvre had gone wrong, for reasons that still need to be clarified, with a car being pushed several metres over the lane. The driver had to be rescued by the emergency services. He was taken to hospital for further treatment after initial first aid.

The injured driver's alcohol test was negative, although it was positive for the other driver whose driver's licence was subsequently withdrawn. The road was closed for the duration of the rescue work until shortly after 02:00. An accident report was drawn up.
