The Grand Ducal Police have confirmed that they caught a total of 601 motorists speeding on tunnels on the A7 motorway on the morning of Monday 23 August 2021.
Between 05:00 and 07:00 a speed check was undertaken in the Grouft tunnel on the A7 motorway in the direction of Luxembourg; at the same time, a mobile radar was in use in the Gousselerberg tunnel.
During the two-hour inspection, in which 15 police officers were involved, a total of 601 drivers were measured driving above the speed limit of 90 km/h.
The officials issued a total of 47 on-the-spot fines, including:
- 16 fines of €145 and 2 points (exceeding the limit by more than 25 km/h), and
- 31 fines at €49 (exceeding the limit by less than, or equal to, 25 km/h)
In one case, a motorist had his driving licence confiscated as he was therefore subject to an immediate provisional driving ban.
A total of 553 cases of exceeding the speed limit were recorded using the mobile radar: in all such cases, corresponding fines will be sent to the vehicle owners.
There were 18 further violations of the road traffic regulations punished, among other things because of:
- improper lighting on the vehicle (6 x €74)
- an improperly installed child seat (1 x €49)
- wearing a non-regulated helmet (1 x €145 + 2 pts)
- not showing a driver's license (6 x €24)
- an unauthorised overtaking maneuver (1 x €145 + 2 pts)
- an irregularity in the papers (1 x €75)
- the driver not wearing a seat belt (1 x €145 + 2 pts)
- the load not being properly secured (1 x €250).
In addition, one vehicle without valid insurance was confiscated by order of the public prosecutor's office.
