The Grand Ducal Police have announced that they are once again participating in the 24-hour pan-European road safety campaign "Speed", which will take place from 19 to 25 April 2021.

Organised by ROADPOL, the European network of traffic police forces, this campaign forms part of the fight against excessive speed, the leading cause of road fatalities in Europe and a factor that triggers and aggravates accidents. Police checks will focus specifically on the speed of road users during this period.

As part of the Speed campaign, the Grand Ducal Police will also take part in the 2021 edition of the "Speed Marathon" operation which will take place on Wednesday 21 April 2021. Speed checks will be carried out over a 24-hour period (from midnight to midnight), especially during peak hours (06:00 - 08:30 and 16:00 - 18:30) across Luxembourg.

The Speed Marathon serves to educate the population about the dangers of speeding, with the aim of preventing road accidents. With this in mind, the operation will be widely covered on the Grand Ducal Police's social networks (@policelux on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, using the #speedmarathon), where not only information about the latest checks but also prevention messages and photo reports will be provided.

The operation is taking place at the European level under the supervision of ROADPOL.

Due to the current circumstances related to COVID-19, the checks will be carried out in strict compliance with the health provisions in force.
