On Monday 27 January 2025, Luxembourg private transport operator Sales-Lentz and Enerdeal, a company specialising in the design, construction, operation and financing of industrial-scale solar photovoltaic power plants, announced their strategic partnership to accelerate the transition to zero-emission mobility by 2030.
Joint efforts will focus on reducing Sales-Lentz’s carbon footprint and managing energy costs amidst fluctuating energy prices.
Sales-Lentz noted that partnering with Enerdeal will help maximise the production of locally sourced green energy across its facilities in Luxembourg. This collaboration includes the installation of rooftop, ground-mounted and carport photovoltaic systems. The energy generated will support the charging needs of Sales-Lentz’s growing fleet of electric buses, currently numbering 200 vehicles and expected to exceed 600 by 2030.
With its focus on sustainable transport, Sales-Lentz first installed a photovoltaic park at its Bascharage site in 2004. Two decades later, the company said it plans to replace the original solar panels with more powerful ones while expanding its solar infrastructure across four additional sites. This initiative will generate over 1.6 GWh of annual energy production. The company said this investment not only supports the energy needs of its electric fleet but also exceeds the decarbonisation targets set out in the Paris Agreement, in terms of decarbonisation for green mobility. By 2030, Sales-Lentz aims to operate an entirely zero-emission fleet, powered by over 10 GWh of renewable energy annually.
In the initial phase, Enerdeal will install nearly 5,000 solar panels on Sales-Lentz facilities in 2025. These installations are expected to generate energy equivalent to the annual consumption of 600 households and reduce CO2 emissions by over 700 tonnes per year. This energy will play a critical role in charging the electric bus fleet, ensuring long-term energy autonomy for the company.
“This partnership with Enerdeal represents a key step in our transition to sustainable mobility. It offers us the opportunity to significantly reduce our carbon footprint while optimising our energy cost management. Thanks to innovative solutions, such as storage batteries that preserve electricity generated during the day, we will be able to recharge our buses at night and take advantage of periods of advantageous electricity pricing,” highlighted Joe Malago, Technical Director at Sales-Lentz.
François Neu, Director of Enerdeal Luxembourg, added: “Our expertise in solar solutions and energy storage, developed through various international projects, will be leveraged here to support Sales-Lentz in this essential transition towards greener mobility.”
