On Monday 20 January 2025, Luxembourg’s Klima-Agence announced the launch of a new version of its electric vehicle (EV) charging station comparator, as part of the 2025 Autofestival.

In a press release, the agency revealed that in addition to charging stations for single-family homes, the newly launched comparison tool will also cover charging solutions for co-ownerships and companies. This will allow checking of the eligibility of these solutions for subsidies and also to compare the different functions of the stations.

The agency added that the comparator’s enhanced functionalities facilitates the identification of charging solutions adapted to various needs, for both individuals and professionals. It reported that the platform can be used to understand and choose suitable equipment for car parks in residential buildings and to assist companies plan and develop charging infrastructures for their fleet or for their customers.

New key features of the platform are:

- comparison of management systems: users can now compare solutions to manage charging intelligently, facilitate billing processes and optimise energy resources (e.g. photovoltaic installation, heat pump);

- search for fast charging stations (DC - direct current): described as ideal for environments requiring high-power solutions;

- advanced filters: an optimised search, according to criteria such as user profile, building type, power or specific functionalities to manage the load and avoid consumption peaks, which is considered particularly useful in the context of the new electricity tariff structure.

Klima-Agence specified that, as one of the key topics of the energy transition, this free and independent consulting offer has for several years covered not only renewable energies and energy renovation but also electric mobility.

The press release also confirmed that the Luxembourg government has extended the financial aid schemes for the installation of private terminals until the end of 2025, as follows:

- single-family homes: the amount of the Klimabonus aid corresponds to 50% of the cost excluding VAT, with a ceiling of €750 for a simple charging terminal, and up to €1,200 for a smart terminal (one to three locations);

- co-ownerships: the amount of the financial aid is 50% of the cost excluding VAT, with a ceiling of €1,200 for a smart charging terminal and up to €1,650 for a charging terminal integrated into a collective intelligent charging management system (four locations or more).

These subsidies can be combined with the use of electricity from photovoltaic installations to charge vehicles, thus promoting even more sustainable mobility.
The Klimabonus subsidies for the purchase or leasing of electric and zero-emission vehicles also remain in force. The current conditions apply to all vehicles purchased or leased until Tuesday 30 June 2026, with registration no later than Wednesday 30 June 2027. This is subject to the finalisation of legislative and regulatory procedures.
