In celebration of European Mobility Week (16-22 September), the City of Bissen and its Culture Committee are hosting the exhibition “On The Move: A Photographic Exploration”; the opening will take place on Saturday 14 September 2024 at the Centre Wonerbatti.

The exhibition features the works of Luxembourg-based photographers Ludo Segers and Kateryna Mostova. It showcases a diverse range of photographs exploring various forms of mobility across a spectrum of settings.

"European Mobility Week is a time for reflection on our transportation choices," said Bissen Councillor Georges Lucius, a driving force behind the exhibition. "What better way to encourage contemplation than through the power of art?"

"Photography has the unique ability to capture fleeting moments and transform them into timeless stories, a quality that resonates deeply with viewers across generations," Councillor Lucius continued. "During a previous event, I met Ludo Segers. We discussed the possibility of showcasing his work alongside a talented, up-and-coming artist. Katerina Mostova, a recent arrival from Ukraine, perfectly fit the bill."

Photographer Ludo Segers, who lives in Grevenmacher, has called Luxembourg home for nearly two decades. He is known for his captivating landscapes and cinematic cityscapes. His graphic design background fuelled a passion for visual storytelling, leading him to explore photography as a medium. While some of his well-known works will be featured, the exhibition primarily focuses on new photographs specifically chosen for their connection to the theme of mobility.

"This exhibition is a visual journey through the heart of mobility. Our daily commutes often hold unseen stories and fleeting moments. These experiences, along with the interplay between connection and isolation, often shape our perceptions of urban landscapes," Ludo explained to Chronicle.lu. "And unlike politicians who grapple with the complexities of urban planning, as photographers we can offer viewers a fresh perspective on the world of mobility through our lenses.".

Co-exhibitor Kateryna Mostova, originally from eastern Ukraine, brings a distinctive dimension to the exhibition. Witnessing the Russian invasion of Crimea and eastern Ukraine in 2014, she relocated to Kyiv. Following the full-scale invasion in 2023, she found refuge in Luxembourg.

Kateryna's diverse photographic explorations showcase her experiences with mobility, both on foot and by various means of transportation. Her collection includes aerial views ranging from the lively Schueberfouer funfair to the vast expanse of the Dubai desert, iconic landmarks like London's Tower Bridge, and the serene villages of her homeland, Ukraine.

"Participating in this exhibition allows me to share my vision of mobility," Kateryna shared with Chronicle.lu. "Each image tells a story of movement, progress and the essence of mobility captured through the lens of photography."

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of Ludo Segers' photos at the exhibition will go to LUkraine asbl, a Luxembourg non-profit organisation supporting Ukraine.

The exhibition will run from Saturday 14 to Sunday 22 September 2024 at Centre Wonerbatti in Bissen (15 Rue de la Laiterie, L-7783). Opening hours: weekends from 14:00-18:00, Thursday 19 September from 20:00-22:00 and Friday 20 September from 18:00-20:00. Closed Monday to Wednesday.
