On Friday 10 June 2022, Luxembourg's Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Mobility and Public Works, François Bausch, in presence of Minister of Regional Planning, Claude Turmes, inaugurated the first section of the Clervaux cross-section and proceeded at the first shovel on the Clervaux - Troisvierges section of the PC21 (piste cyclable) cycle path.
The objective of the Clervaux transversal project is to relieve the N18, Clervaux and Troisvierges of constant transient traffic as well as to facilitate access to the industrial zone of Lentzweiler. In addition, a link between the PC21 at Clervaux and the PC7 along the N7 at Marnach will be built.
"An important road for the entire northern region", stressed Minister Bausch, "it is also an element that is part of the 2035 Mobility Plan, which aims, among other things, to improve the quality of life of the inhabitants”.
The section inaugurated (N7 - CR340) has a length of 1,900 metres and includes in particular the construction of the roundabout on the N7, the Irbich viaduct and the current section between the CR340 and the N7, including the roundabout on the CR340.
The section of the cycle path between Clervaux and Troisvierges, which was the subject of the first shovel, is an essential link in the cycle network in the north of the country. With a length of around 6 km, it will largely run along the railway line and then pass through Cinqfontaines in order to bypass the railway tunnel to join the existing path which leads to Troisvierges. Work on lot 1, including the section between Clervaux and Maulusmühle, will be completed by summer 2023.
The project costs for lots 1 and 2 amounts to €7 million.
