The City of Luxembourg (Ville de Luxembourg - VdL) has presented a new project for a bicycle and pedestrian bridge that will link the districts of Cents and Neudorf with the Kirchberg Plateau in Luxembourg City.

Aimed at encouraging active mobility and sustainable transport, the new bridge will provide a 4.5-metre wide pathway exclusively for pedestrian and bicycle traffic.

In Cents, the bridge can be accessed from Rue Tawioun, and in Weimershaff, from Rue des Bleuets.

The route was finally selected after examining several options over the past few years. The authorities concluded that the selected route had several advantages, both in terms of mobility and technical feasibility.

The project also features an elevator shaft, which is architecturally and structurally independent from the bridge structure. The elevator itself is situated at a distance of 4 metres from the bridge and both feature their own distinctive identities, while forming a coherent whole.

At the bottom of the valley, the forecourt area opens onto Rue de Neudorf. It is designed in such a way as to connect very different parts of this district and its bordering wooded slopes. The forecourt, which features the central pile of the bridge and has the elevator set back from the street, also opens onto the north side of the valley.

Completion of the works is planned for 2025. The overall budget for the project is just over €18.1 million.
