Luxembourg's Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development and Ministry of Energy and Spatial Planning have announced the entry into force of the new financial aid regime for the installation of private electric vehicle charging stations.

Alongside the establishment of a network of public "Chargy" charging and fast charging stations, the government has just introduced a financial support scheme for the installation of private charging stations, powered by green electricity.

Aimed at current and future users of electric vehicles, the support scheme broadens the possibilities of electric charging and aims to direct users towards viable, comfortable and secure solutions: the intelligent organisation of the simultaneous charging of several cars will be made possible and compatible with the electricity network.

At the financial level, the eligible costs cover the charging station, technical equipment, manual labour for the installation of a new station or the technical adaptation of a pre-existing installation. The grant amounts vary depending on the number of locations attached to a building and the intelligence of the charging installation: for up to three locations, owners, tenants and trustees can apply for a subsidy of 50% up to €750 for a normal station or up to €1,200 for an intelligent station; for four or more locations, a grant of 50% up to €1,200 is available for normal stations or up to €1,650 for intelligent stations.

The financial aid scheme is intended for natural persons who own or rent the parking space (located on the territory of the Grand Duchy) on which the charging station is installed. One location per housing unit is eligible. Charging stations intended for commercial use or for resale are excluded.

This concerns new charging stations with a maximum charging power limited to 11 kilowatts, purchased between 1 July 2020 and 30 June 2023 and installed by a professional electrician.
