Luxtram has announced its decision to install solar panels on the roof of the tram storage centre in Luxembourg-Kirchberg.

In its attempts to actively contribute to the development of renewable energies, Luxtram has chosen to invest, in collaboration with Enovos, in the production of solar energy through the installation of photovoltaic panels on the roof of the tram storage centre.

In 2018, Luxtram and Enovos created the joint subsidiary Voltranovos SA dedicated to the production of electrical energy from solar sources. The creation of Voltranovos is part of the first call for tenders in Luxembourg relating to the construction and operation of photovoltaic installations with a power greater than 500 kWp.

In September 2019, the installation started with the installation of photovoltaic panels on the roof of the tram storage centre on a surface of 4,500 m2, followed by the implementation of electrical equipment. In early 2020, the installation was commissioned with a test phase which was conclusive. The photovoltaic installation now produces energy which is injected directly into the Creos Luxembourg electricity network.
