Luxembourg's Ministry of Education, Children and Youth has published statistics on the evolution of the COVID-19 situation in schools across the Grand Duchy for the week of 14 to 20 June 2021.
The figures for students and teachers testing positive for COVID-19 relate to all public and private primary and secondary schools and competence centres in specialised psychopedagogy located across Luxembourg.
During the week of 14 to 20 June, there was a decrease (-21) in the number of positive cases compared to the previous week; the total number of cases fell from 59 to 38.
More specifically, during the week in question:
- 26 cases corresponding to scenario 1 were counted in nine primary schools, eleven secondary schools and one competence centre (scenario 1: pupil or teacher infected outside the school without there having been a spread of the virus at school);
- Two cases corresponding to scenario 2 were observed in two secondary schools (scenario 2: two positive cases in a class with an uncertain source of infection or probably outside the class);
- Three cases corresponding to scenario 3 were identified in one secondary school (three to five positive cases in a class);
- One scenario 4 appeared (a chain of infection within a school; several classes concerned or a class with more than five cases).
Scenario 4 at Frisange Primary School
On 14 June 2021, a teacher and a pupil at the primary school in Frisange tested positive during the self-testing of a cycle 4.2 class. The class was sent home. The other 4.2 cycle classes in which the same teacher worked were isolated and then placed in quarantine following the appearance on 16 June of a second positive case. On 15 June, following a PCR test, another teacher, in a cycle 4.1 class, tested positive. Due to the mixing of pupils in the "maisons relais" childcare facilities, the class was immediately put into quarantine. Between 15 and 23 June, a total of twelve positive cases were identified or confirmed by PCR. As a precaution, it was decided that all primary school classes would take rapid tests on 24 June 2021.
