Luxembourg's Ministry of Education, Children and Youth has published statistics on the evolution of the COVID-19 situation in schools across the Grand Duchy for the week of 19 to 25 April 2021.
The figures for students and teachers testing positive for COVID-19 relate to all public and private primary and secondary schools and competence centres in specialised psychopedagogy located across Luxembourg.
During the week of 19 to 25 April, a total of 284 new cases were identified:
• 270 positive cases corresponding to scenario 1 were observed in 72 primary schools, 31 secondary schools and two competence centres (scenario 1: pupil or teacher infected outside the school without there having been a spread of the virus at school);
• Eight cases corresponding to scenario 2 were identified in three primary schools and one secondary school (scenario 2: maximum two positive cases in a class with an uncertain source of infection or probably outside the class);
• No scenario 3 cases were observed (scenario 3: three to five positive cases in a class);
• One scenario 4 case, concerning six students, appeared during the week in question (scenario 4: a chain of infection within a school; several classes concerned or a class with more than five cases).
Scenario 4 in Lycée Vauban
Following a private gathering of final-year students from different classes at Lycée Vauban on 16 April 2021, six students tested positive for coronavirus. Three of the classes in question were put into quarantine; another class was isolated from the others. As a precautionary measure, all final-year classes at the school were placed in quarantine from 25 to 29 April 2021 inclusive.
