Following Wednesday's press conference on the updated COVID-19 situation in Luxembourg, the Ministry of Health has published a detailed breakdown of recent infections, including the number of new cases per canton.
From this new information, it can be seen that Esch-sur-Alzette counts the highest number of infections, with 329 reported between 22 June and 12 July 2020. Luxembourg City (161) had the second most infections during this period, followed by Diekirch (49) and Capellen (42). Vianden (4), Redange (6) and Clervaux and Echternach (7 each) counted the fewest infections during this time.
The map pictured shows both the total number of infections reported as well as the number of cases per 10,000 inhabitants in each canton.
In addition, the Ministry of Health reported that 402 new infections were recorded across the country last week (6 to 12 July 2020), as well as 2,039 contacts (tracing), compared to 289 new infections (and one additional death) and 1,963 contacts for the previous week. The average age of those infected during this period was 35.9, whilst the proportion of symptomatic individuals increased to 63%.
Last week, seven people tested positive in different care homes and several new infections were reported in several companies. Several sporadic cases have been observed in various schools, although the ministry assured that quarantines have helped avoid a more significant spread of the virus.
