In irder to improve the overall quality of life of cancer patients, the Cancer Foundation and the Centre Hospitalier du Nord (CHDN) in Ettelbruck recently started a cooperation involving the regular presence of volunteers from the Cancer Foundation at the CHDN.
"The agreement is of great importance to us. Previously, volunteers were engaged in the hospitals of the capital and Esch-sur-Alzette. We are now pleased to launch this offer also for northern patients," said Barbara Strehler, a graduate psychologist and head of the psycho-social service of the Cancer Foundation.
The volunteers of the Cancer Foundation for many years have played an integral part of hospital teams. They are present during the outpatient chemotherapy, radiotherapy and oncology services. Volunteers talk to patients awaiting treatment, have a listen to their concerns and fears, encourage and support them while behaving respectfully. In addition, volunteers can relieve the relatives of patients and hospital staff. All volunteers of the Cancer Foundation are specially trained in advance for their hospital activity and regularly participate in continuing education.
