The Luxembourg Ministry of Health has encouraged and advised the public to take the necessary precautions ahead of the yearly flu season and get themselves vaccinated.

The influenza (flu) virus can have complicated and adverse effects, especially for children, adults who are dealing with chronic illness and people over the age of sixty-five. Pregnant women are also advised to get the vaccination for their own and their baby’s health.

The flu vaccination is generally well received and rarely has adverse secondary effects apart from a light fever and pain around the injected area.

The public health entity has advised the public to be careful not to confuse flu symptoms with those of the common cold. It has also called upon medical and nursing professionals, as well as people who come into frequent contact with those who are most vulnerable to illness to be vaccinated also. The best time for vaccination is between October and November, as the immunity kicks into the system fifteen days after vaccination and lasts for six to eight months, which covers the entire winter season when the virus tends to go around.

Vaccinations are free and available at pharmacies with a medical prescription.
