From Tuesday 15 to Wednesday 30 September 2026, officers from the Grand Ducal Police conducted checks around school premises specifically focused on the start of the school year and the safety of children on their way to school.
On Monday 5 October, the police reported that during this period a total of 408 fines were issued for illegal parking and 235 for speeding. A further 87 fines were issued for failure to wear a seatbelt. In addition, ten fines were issued for the absence of an approved child seat when transporting a child under three years of age or a child aged three to seventeen inclusive whose height does not reach 150 cm.
Moreover, ten fines were issued for failure to wear a regulation protective helmet. Finally, 326 fines were issued for using a mobile phone while driving.
The police also called for increased vigilance around schools. Younger children in particular are not yet aware of road hazards and are less visible due to their smaller size, especially early in the morning when it is still dark. Therefore, even outside the start-of-term period, all road users are urged to exercise particular caution around schools:
• Be attentive and watch out for children.
• Adjust your speed around schools.
