On Tuesday 22 September 2026, the City of Luxembourg (VdL) announced the launch of its Climate Plan, aimed at developing a roadmap to address climate challenges and support the city's energy transition over the coming decades.

The plan will focus on four main objectives: reducing energy needs and dependence on fossil fuels; strengthening the city's resilience to energy crises and climate change; improving air quality; and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

According to the VdL, the Climate Plan will be developed in cooperation with residents, municipal departments, businesses and public institutions, with several forms of consultation planned throughout the process.

Residents will be able to contribute through public consultations, while individual interviews will be held with owners of residential buildings. The process will also include thematic workshops with municipal departments, targeted consultations with economic stakeholders and cooperation with public institutions.

As part of the initiative, the VdL has launched an online ideas box through which members of the public can submit their ideas and expectations for the future Climate Plan.
