On Monday 26 October 2015, members of the public will be invited to share in the friendship between Luxembourgish poet Anise Koltz and Austrian writer Thomas Bernhard at the Abbaye de Neumünster.
The event, organised by Institut Pierre Werner in collaboration with German publishing house Suhrkamp, editorial manager Raimun Fellinger, the Centre National de Littérature (CNL) and the Austrian Embassy in Luxembourg, will look at the meeting between the two artists which occurred during Mondorf Poetry Days, and the hitherto unpublished letter exchanges which followed.
Poet Anise Koltz will speak of her meetings with Thomas Bernhard, who created a body of work deemed "the most significant literary achievement since World War II" by the New York Times before his death in 1989. Koltz will be joined by Tim Reuter, an expert on Bernhard, who will open the evening.
Anise Koltz and Raimun Fellinger will then discuss Thomas Bernhard's residency in Luxembourg, before a reading of the unpublished correspondence between Koltz and Bernhard by Luxembourgish actor Germain Wagner.
The evening, hosted by Henning Marmulla of the University of Luxembourg, will evoke an important chapter in Luxembourgish literary post-war history and will be attended by several relatives, collagues and specialists of the Austrian novelist and playwright.
