The Board of Directors of Luxembourg’s National Health Laboratory (LNS) has announced that Dr Thomas Dentzer has been appointed as Director of the institution, effective from Friday 15 May 2026.

In a press release, the LNS detailed that Dr Thomas Dentzer, who graduated from Rockefeller University in New York (PhD in Virology), within a Nobel Prize-winning laboratory, and from Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg (Master’s degree in Biology), has extensive expertise in public health in Luxembourg.

Before joining the LNS, he held several positions in the fields of life sciences and healthcare, notably at the Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH), Deloitte (Healthcare & Life Sciences), Luxinnovation where he led the Life Sciences sector and the Luxembourg BioHealth Cluster, as well as at the Directorate of Health, where he was responsible for strategic coordination, digital health and international relations. During the pandemic, he also supervised the national testing strategies.

For more than three years, Dr Dentzer served as Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Deputy Director of the LNS, making a significant contribution to maintaining operational continuity in a context of organisational and operational challenges.

The LNS said the appointment reflected its commitment to stability and the continued transformation of the LNS.

“We have full confidence in Dr Thomas Dentzer’s skills, vision and leadership qualities. His professional background, his in-depth knowledge of the institution and his understanding of Luxembourg’s healthcare ecosystem are major assets to support the continued development of the LNS”, stated Dr Guy Berchem, Chairman of the Board of Directors.

In his new role, Dr Thomas Dentzer will be responsible for defining and driving a strategic vision for the institution, leading key transformation projects, strengthening internal dynamics and addressing the institution’s future challenges in support of operational excellence.

To achieve these objectives, Dr Dentzer will be supported by Safaâ Moujahid, Chief Financial and Administrative Officer and Deputy Director of the institution, as well as by the future Chief Operating Officer, who will also join the management team as Deputy Director.

“I am honoured by the trust placed in me. Above all, this appointment reflects recognition of the collective work accomplished over the past years. Together with our teams, we will continue working to strengthen the quality of our services, develop new offerings for the benefit of patients and healthcare professionals, and build the future of the LNS”, said Dr Thomas Dentzer
