On Monday 20 January 2025, Luxembourg's employment agency, ADEM, reported that there were 19,532 resident jobseekers available for work at the end of December 2024; the unemployment rate remains stable at 5.9%.

The number of available resident jobseekers registered with ADEM as of 31 December 2024 stood at 19,532, an increase of 1,334 individuals (or 7.3%) compared to December 2023.

This increase particularly affected jobseekers registered with ADEM for more than seven months, as well as jobseekers over the age of 30 and the most qualified jobseekers (university graduates). Regarding professions, the most significant increases concerned the road transport operations, accounting, culinary production, IT and banking sectors.

The number of new jobseeker registrations has slightly increased. A total of 2,328 residents registered with ADEM in December 2024, marking an increase of 50 individuals (or 2.2%) compared to December 2023. New registrations for the month in question include 62 individuals benefiting from temporary protection (i.e. refugees from Ukraine).

The number of resident jobseekers receiving full unemployment benefits rose by 917 individuals (or 9.3%), year-on-year, reaching 10,737 as of 31 December. The number of individuals benefiting from employment support measures stands at 4,111, unchanged from December 2023.

In December 2024, employers reported 2,385 vacant positions to ADEM, representing a 7.1% decline compared to December 2023. The total number of available positions at the end of the month was 5,935 as of 31 December 2024, marking a decrease of 15.2% over one year. This decrease mainly impacted the accounting and secondary building trades.
