The Grand Ducal Police have reported the arrest of a man driving without a valid licence who also tested positive for drug use following a high-speed chase through Luxembourg.
At around 01:30 on Saturday 9 August 2025, police officers in Luxembourg City spotted a suspicious vehicle on Côte d'Eich. When they attempted to stop it, the driver fled at high speed.
A chase ensued, during which the suspect ran multiple red lights and continued to drive at high speed through the capital, onto the A4 motorway and then along the A13 towards Niederkorn. Upon reaching Rue Theis, the vehicle turned into the street and collided with two parked cars, also damaging several police vehicles.
At that moment, the pursuing officers were outside their own vehicle. They were able to avoid the suspect's car, which was driving dangerously toward them, and escaped unharmed. The suspect's vehicle eventually collided with another parked car, causing it to roll over and land on its side.
The driver did not have a valid driver's licence and tested positive for drug use. Officers seized drugs during a vehicle search. The man was taken to hospital for examination.
Police confirmed they had noticed the same individual the previous night, when he sped away from a police checkpoint.
On order of the public prosecutor, the man was taken into custody. He was scheduled to appear before an examining magistrate on Saturday afternoon.
