On Monday 19 August 2024, Luxembourg's employment agency, ADEM, reported that there were 17,901 resident jobseekers available for work at the end of July 2024; the unemployment rate increased slightly over one month, from 5.7% in June to 5.8% in July.
The number of available resident jobseekers registered with ADEM as of 31 July 2024 stood at 17,901, an increase of 1,790 people (i.e. 11.1%) compared to July 2023.
This number of jobseekers was on the rise for all unemployment periods. The most qualified jobseekers (university graduates) as well as people aged 30 to 44 experienced the largest increases.
Regarding professions, the most significant upward variations concern construction, installation and maintenance, transport and logistics, industry, accounting, IT and banking.
The number of new registrations of jobseekers remained stable. 2,556 residents registered with ADEM during July 2024, an increase of seven people or 0.3% compared to July 2023. Note that the new registrations this month include 81 registrations of beneficiaries of temporary protection (refugees from Ukraine).
The number of resident jobseekers benefiting from full unemployment benefits increased by 1,733 people or 20.4% over one year, to reach 10,248 as of 31 July. The number of beneficiaries of an employment measure stood at 4,325, an increase of 6.2% compared to July 2023.
In July 2024, employers declared 3,470 vacancies to ADEM, up 5.5% compared to July 2023. The total number of vacancies available at the end of the month stood at 7,539 as of 31 July. This represents a decrease of 20.8 % over one year. According to ADEM, this drop mainly impacts the professions of accounting and management, IT, the financial and real estate sector, finishing trades, legal professions, road transport driving personnel profession and warehousing, handling and moving professions.
