On Wednesday 24 July 2024, Luxembourg’s Ministry of Mobility and Public Works announced it is undergoing a reorganisation.

This restructuring should allow for better synergies between the directorates and services of the current departments of Mobility and Public Works, the ministry noted.

As of 16 September 2024, the Ministry of Mobility and Public Works will consist of four directorates, namely the Directorate-General of Legal Affairs, Public Procurement and Logistics, the Directorate-General of Public Works and Urbanisation, the Directorate-General of Public Transport and Transport Infrastructure as well as the Directorate-General of General Affairs, Aviation, Strategy and Innovation.

Félicie Weycker, currently the General Coordinator of the Mobility Department, will be in charge of the Directorate-General of Legal Affairs, Public Procurement and Logistics. Tom Weisgerber, currently General Coordinator of the Public Works Department, will retire in autumn 2024.

In its meeting on 24 July 2024, the Government Council agreed with the proposals for the following four appointments to the Ministry of Mobility and Public Works. Jean-Paul Lickes will take over the Directorate-General of Public Transport, Sylvie Siebenborn, the Directorate-General of Public Works and Gilio Fonck will coordinate the Directorate-General of Aviation and Strategy.

Loris Meyer, First Class Government Councillor, and secretary of the DP parliamentary group, will also support the Ministry's team and will be responsible for coordination and communication strategy.

Max Dörner, General Coordinator to Luxembourg’s Minister for Mobility and Public Works, Yuriko Backes, will coordinate the four Directorates-General within the Ministry.

Minister Backes noted: "I am delighted to be able to welcome to this ministry of considerable importance for the development of our country people with extensive professional experience. They will join agents whose unwavering commitment I have seen since I took office last November. I am convinced that this new organisation of the ministry will enable its services and agents to respond even better to its missions and this is in the interest of the country’s citizens. I would also like to thank Tom Weisgerber for his dedication throughout his career and more particularly within the Department of Public Works which he headed for many years."

Ministry reorganisations are normally done once there is a change in government, with some being implemented sooner and others later.
