On Monday 22 July 2024, Luxembourg's employment agency, ADEM, reported that there were 17,083 resident jobseekers available for work at the end of June 2024; the unemployment rate remained unchanged over one month, at 5.7%.

The number of available resident jobskeers registered with ADEM as of 30 June 2024 stood at 17,083, an increase of 1,750 people (i.e. 11.4%) compared to June 2023.

The number of jobseekers was on the rise for all unemployment periods. The most qualified jobseekers (university graduates) as well as people aged 30 to 44 experienced the largest increases.

Regarding professions, the most significant upward variations concern construction, installation and maintenance, transport and logistics, the financial and real estate sector, hotels, restaurants, tourism and leisure, accounting, and IT.

The number of new jobseeker registrations declined: 2,178 residents registered with ADEM during the month of June 2024, a decrease of 162 people or 6.9% compared to June 2023. This marked the first time since January 2022 that the difference over one year decreased. New registrations for this month include 59 registrations by beneficiaries of temporary protection (i.e. refugees from Ukraine).

 

The number of resident jobseekers benefiting from full unemployment benefits increased by 1,868 people or 22.8% over one year, to reach 10,078 as of 30 June 2024. The number of beneficiaries of an unemployment measure stood at 4,559, an increase of 7.2% compared to June 2023.

In June 2024, employers declared 3,090 vacant positions to ADEM - down 11.7% compared to June 2023. The total number of vacancies at the end of the month stood at 7,586. This represents a decrease of 20% over one year. According to ADEM, this drop mainly impacts the professions of accounting and management, IT, the financial and real estate sector, finishing trades, legal professions, warehousing, handling and moving professions.

The unemployment rate, adjusted for seasonal variations, as calculated by STATEC, stood at 5.7% at the end of June 2024 - unchanged from May 2024.
